Dane County Circuit Court, Branch 1
The Strong Tradition Must Continue
The Dane County Circuit Court system is composed of 17 branches of diverse and respected judges sworn to uphold the laws of our county, state, and nation. These judges rule on criminal and civil issues (learn more about the role of Wisconsin's circuit courts).
Until July 31, 2025, the Branch One Dane County Circuit Court judge seat was held by the Honorable Susan Crawford–recently elected to the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Judge Crawford ran on a platform of fairness, impartiality and the protection of fundamental rights. The people of Wisconsin resoundingly agreed with Judge Crawford.
The judge to be elected on April 7, 2026, will replace Judge Crawford and must have extensive legal experience, integrity and a diverse background of service that reflects all the people of Dane County. Attorney Huma Ahsan will serve all the residents of Dane County with integrity, fairness, and a faithful interpretation of the Constitution.
Attorney Ahsan believes that in today's difficult climate, if one person’s rights are ignored, everyone’s rights can be ignored. And it can happen here in Dane County if we don’t have judges willing to uphold the law and protect fundamental due process rights.
